EMBARGO cOUNTINUES
As of March 2014, the embargo is still in action. Similar to the cold war era, the embargo still isn't making a positive impact on either country. An american politician who is actively trying to get the embargo lifted is former Florida governor, Charlie Crist. He is running again for governor. Part of his campaign is advocating for the removal of the embargo. He said, "The embargo has done nothing in more than 50 years to change the regime in Cuba," Crist said in a statement. "If we want to bring democracy to Cuba, we need to encourage American values and investment there." If this way of thinking was put to action, Cuba might be willing to change their government. Also, Cuba would benefit from the supplies (mostly medical) that would be traded to them. An increase in supplies might lessen the tensions between the two countries.
