Today, Nicaragua's economy is 2 points below the world average for economic freedom. In the early 2000's Nicaragua was rated "moderately free" but since 2009 it was rated "mostly unfree". Nicaragua's anti-free market drives the class separation and today Nicaragua has a population of around 6 million people. Nicaragua still has to fight governmental corruption and their government is currently a republic. The current Nicaraguan president is Daniel Ortega who came to power in 2007. Daniel Ortega is a leader of the Socialist Sandinista National Liberation Front and he was president previously from 1979-1990. Nicaragua is a country with less funds and a larger split between the classes and there is always a tension between the communist Sandinistas and anti- communist Contras.
